All are deceased. Claudia Wolosin, 6 rue Voltaire, 38000 Grenoble, France, (2006-02-05)
MACINKA - A am a second generation American. My father Francis Macinka was born in 1908 in Philadelphia, PA. My grandparents were born somewhere in Czechoslovakia and migrated to the US (Pennsylvania) somewhere around the 1890s. My uncle told me before he died, that a farm town in Czechoslovakia was named after our family. I have no verification. I am the last Macinka alive in our family. I would love to leave the heritage and history of our family to my daughters. Joseph Charles Macinka, (2002-01-17)

She was very active in the Slovak community and provided translation to the Slovak League of Chicago until her dying day. Their were five family members that arrived, they are as follows: Joseph, John, Michael, Stephen and Mary - all with the surname Machalica (the spelling was changed to Mackalica when my grandfather served in the US Military). They arrived at Ellis Island and directly proceeded to McKee's Rocks Pennsylvania upon their arrival in the USA. Sr. Methodia's family seperated and went to the Midwest. MACKO (Dvorianky) - I have been researching John and Mary Evans. At this time I haven’t been able to conclusively determine the actual surname for John, possibly Evanoike, Evanoyka, and there are several other variations. But, these two surnames also settled in Colorado, as neighbours to other Austrian/Bohemian/Yugoslave/Czech. families. I have discovered it all depends which census you review… they changed their native country names every ten years!!! Mrs. Mary Evans it turns out was easier. Her full name appears to have been, Anna Marie Magdalene Macko aka Maczko (different places, different spellings, naturally). She was called Ann, Annie, and Mary during her life in Pueblo County, Colo., Elbert County, Colo., and finally, Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois. Immigration: I have a variety of years these two reported they arrived in the U.S. between 1888 and 1895. She reported she arrived between 1894-1900, but she was here for the 1900 census. Naturalization: I ordered from Colo. State Archives, and received the final papers, swearing into citizenship, John Evans 20 Sep 1904 in Pueblo Co., Colo. There were no “intent to file citizenship papers,” which make me believe those might have been filed at the port of entry. All I got was, “Naturalized, native of Austria, became a citizen, born "1901 age 30," date & port of arrival not recorded in the Pueblo County Court, witnessed by Mark Ballach & Albert Lepik both Pueblo, Colo. signed L.B. Gibson Judge and mark by John Evans.” Again, he was recorded in the 1900 census. I also found that Mary and John purportedly came from two towns, (her) Drorianki, Czechoslovakia and (he) Parchoveni, Czechoslovakia. The closest I found were: Dvorianky, a village, is 1. nm south or Parchovany. And, Parchovany is a village and municipality of Trebišov Dis. in the Košice Region of SE Slovakia. MADARAS - I am a first generation American and although I can understand and speak Slovak I know almost nothing about my ancestry. I know my Grandfather's name on my Mother's side was John or Jan Kozma a town near Koshetsa (spelling not correct) and my grandmother's name was Zuska or Susan Kramer or Krammer. My father's father was Michael Mochtak and his mother's last name was Madaras again, spelling of grandmother's name is probably not correct, they lived in a village named after walnuts or Orechova. I know the last names are correct. I have looked up Ellis Island landing records and cannot find Mochtak anywhere although I know my grandfather came to America at least 2 times before 1910. Grandfather Kozma came here around 1922-23. I still have many relatives in Slovakia but cannot read or write to them as am not proficient enough and my Mother seems reluctant for me to keep in touch although she and my father have corresponded with them for many, many years. My father was born in America in 1919 in Youngstown, Ohio and my mother was born in Czech in 1921. (2002-12-30)

MAJZUN (Závod) - My great grandfather Vendelinus Vinka was the son of Emericus Vinka and Anna Majzun born in Zavod (No. 119), Bratislava, Slovakia in 1900 according to his baptism papers. The family was also Roman Catholics. According to an Ohio census Anna was born about 1880 and I believe that at some point Emericus changed his name to Henry and the 1910 federal Ohio census says he was born about 1873. The family immigrated to America through Ellis Island and settled in Ohio: Passenger list for the SS Lahn dated 6 Dec 1900 shows the arrival of a Imre (or Emre) Vinka born about 1873/74 coming from Zavod and going to Bellaire, Ohio. Pasenger list for the SS Barbarossa dated 16 Feb 1905 shows the arrival of Anna Vinka (born about 1880) and her son Vendol Vinka (born about 1900) coming from Zavod and traveling to Emrich Vinka in Bellaire, Ohio. There was also a Miklos Majzun traveling on the Barbarossa from Zavod. There are also various Majzun and Vinka passengers traveling from Zavod to the US during various years. Emericus and Anna Vinka left behind a daughter named Helen or Helena born 1898 in Zavod with Emericus's grandfather. She later married someone with the last name Sisolak - first name possibly John. Vendelinus had his name changed to Wendel Winko in Louisiana, 1923. Emericus had two sisters and I think their names were Anna and Catherine. Emericus and Anna later had five more children in Ohio: Mary, Joseph, John, Elizabeth, and Paul (who was later adopted by the Radish family). I found a 1910 federal census with the family in Ohio. I am looking for information about this family while they resided in Zavod. Interested if there were any generations that came from the left behind daughter (Helen or Helena). Also if anything is know about previous generations. Dan Winko, (2007-03-13)

MARCINČÁK - I have been trying to research a very close friend of mines family heritage. Terry Martin has been my closet friend since 1961 and is the son of Michael and Edith Martin. Michael Martin was born October 22, 1913 in Homestead, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of 10 or 11 children, (he is 92 and honestly does not remember). His parents were John and Elizabeth Martin and they migrated to Pennsylvania from Slovakia. John changed his name from Marcincak to Martin when he went to work at the steel mills in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I understand that he was supposed to have come to America in the 1890’s, however I have had trouble confirming his entrance through Ellis Island. I have confirmed that two of his brother’s, Michael and Andrej Marcincak did come through Ellis Island. I am trying to find out about the Marcincak Family. Terry’s father remembers his older brothers, uncles and father talking about Bratislava. I believe from the Ellis Island records that they from a small town named Olevar. I do know that the family is Roman Catholic and that his Father and Grandfather both may have served in the military. Paul G. MARTIN (Pittsburg, USA) - I have been trying to research a very close friend of mines family heritage. Paul G. MARTON - I have been trying to locate my paternal ancestors, who were of Slovak descent. My great-grandfahter's last name was originally spelled: Andreas Hrbac. He came to the USA approximately 1884, or 1881. He was married twice. His first wife and children died in a cholera epidemic. His second marriage was to Alzbeta Marton. Her father;s name was Michael Marton. Andreas came to the US first and sent for his wife Alzbeta and young son Andreas, who was 10 years' old at the time. Andreas II married Anna Sabol, who came to the USA on her 18th birthday from Slovakia, which was under the rule of Austria-Hungary at the time. Her parents were: George and Anna (Kochera) Sabol. The Hrbacs still have relatives in Slovkia; where they are is unknown. The Hrbac's religion is Lutheran. If anyone can provide me with any information in regard to the families of: Hrbac, Sabol, Marton, or Kochera, it would be greatly appreciated. The Hrbac's changed the spelling of their name from Hrbac, to Hrbac, then to Harbach. Help please; I would love to find relatives and information on where my father's family originated. Respectfully, June (Harbach) Adamchak, (2008-12-15)

MELUS (Solčany) - My name is Heinrich Melus and I’m born in Austria. I’m 66 years old and look for possible relatives in the Solčany – Krnča area. It seems that I’m the last male Melus in Austria. I’m born in Austria and work for many years in Moscow and live also there. I come 3-4 times a year to Vienna, which I could use to go to Topoľcany country. I know very little about my roots, but… My father Michael MELUS was born 3.3.1896 in Solčany and died 1970 in Vienna. His parents: Jozef Melus born 1870 and his wife Maria Nikodem (Melus) born 1872 (?). Jozef Melus was the last child (12th) and the only boy in his family. My grandfather worked for the Odescalchi family as a hunter(?). He had serious trouble with one young Odescalchi in 1898. After a fight he took his wife and children and escaped to Vienna, where he lived till his dead, Februar 1943. I was a year ago in Solčany and Krnča, but know nobody there. I saw graves of Melus and Nikodem on both cemeteries. I look for relatives from my grandfathers/mother or from their parents, if existing. If German language is easier, I can write in the future. My grand-mother Julia(nna) Horacsekova was born in 1911 (°24/11/1911 BRATISLAVA, Staré Mesto). She came in France with her mother and her half sisters and half brother about 1932. She married with Blanquet Kléber (x 1932 in France). She lived in La Croix-Saint-Ouen (Oise, France), then Compigne (Oise, France) and others places in Oise (a department near Paris in France). Her brother was Jozef Horacek (°1913 Bratislava, + 1915 Hradna-Bratislava). Her mother was Maria Strbova (Strba), also called Pauline Memniar (I don't know why, perhaps a mistake in French civil register) (° 28/12/1893 Bratislava, + France). Maria Strbova (Strba) married Stefan Horacek (or Stephanus Joannes Horacsek) in Bratislava (°20/06/1888 Bratislava, +29/04/1944 Bratislava). He lived in Vahy-Bratislava. After some years they divorced. Maria remaried with Pflandzer Edouard. Maria's parents are: Strba Paul (Pavol) and Reinitz (or Rajnitz) Julianna. Stefan's parents are: Horacek Jan (Jean) and Hajicekova or Krajicekova Maria. They are from Veľké Leváre. I don't know if Stefan remarried. If he remarried, perhaps he had others childrens. Also he should have brothers or sisters. So, I'm searching informations about these persons, and about their family. MICHALÍK (Hriňová) - I believe our son posted on the site for our search for ancestors of my husbands grandfather Andrew Golian. Grandfather came to the states about 1902. Dora and 3 sons came about 1910. We have found the Tusim side of the family near Hrinova, Slovakia. They used to have 2 surnames, Lalik-Tusim. It is possible our Golian side was Golian-Hustava or Hustava-Golian. Grandfather married Dora Tusim, a widow with several children. She was much older than Grandfather Andrew. She was born about 1850.Her maiden name was Michalikova. She and Grandfather Golian had 3 sons together, Emerich, Martin (My husbands father ) and Andrew 2 nd. All born near Hrinova. Grandfather first came to Pennsylvania and worked in coal mines there. grandmother and 3 sons came about 1910. About 1910-1915 they came to Ilasco, Missouri to work in a new cement plant being built there. Grandfather was killed in an accident there in 1924. Grandmother died about 1943. We would like to find where grandfather was born, who his family was, and if there are still relatives in Slovakia. We just knew he came from the old Hungary-Austria area. Tusims are found, but seem to know nothing about Golians. Hope someone can help us find his family. Thank you John and Georgia Golian. John is 73 and I am 67. Our son is searching too. MISHOCK (Allentown, PA, USA) - I am doing genealogy research on my wife's Slovak families. My wife's father Michael Setegena, b. Sept. 21,1888 in Starina, came to the USA in 1907. In the USA he adopted the name of Stagney. His brother Peter and some sisters also came separately to America. My wife's mother was Julianna Misik b. June 20, 1890 in Vyšná Rybnica. She came to the USA in 1906. A brother John and sister Mary also came separately to America. A brother, George remained in Slovakia and was last known to be working at a stamping plant in Michalovce (?) – at age 64 (abt. 1978). While I have some information on these families, research has been difficult because the old folks are gone and no one now speaks Slovak. We have been trying to match up what we know with some Slovak families now in Allentown, PA. These families were Misik, Mishock, Motsiks etc. My wife's folks considered thes families as related. Would enjoy making contact and possibly sharing the lives of these American immigrants with relatives still living in Slovakia. Gerald E. MOCHTAK - I am a first generation American and although I can understand and speak Slovak I know almost nothing about my ancestry.

MOSKOVITS - My family emigrated from Galicia to Slovakia in the early 19th century or perhaps the late 18th century. I have been told that the name was Moskovits prior to Schonfeld. The earliest name I have is Eliezer, father of Moshe Schonfeld. Eliezer was a manager for Grof Csaky, and he must have performed well since the Grof rewarded him with much land around Habura and Palota. Moses (Mose) was born in 1807, probably in Habura. He lived in Habura and had four children there, when he moved his family to Medzilaborce (he had additional children after moving to Medzilaborce). Mose had a brother Schia who was born about 1798, and he possibly had another brother Mendel. He may have had additional siblings as well. Mose is known to have married the daughter of a famous Hasidic Rabbi, Rabbi Zvi Elimelech Spira originally of Dynow, Galicia. Both Sarah and Mose were born in 1810 or earlier. Their tombstones can be found in the Jewish cemetery in Medzilaborce. Louis Schonfeld, 5553 Broadview Road, Cleveland, OH 44134 USA, fax -216-291-0824, (2002-01-15)

Gerald E. MÚČKA - Zaujímam sa o rod Amrich pochádzajúci pravdepodobne zo Zliechova, okr. Ilava. Som autorom knihy Veľké Bielice - história a súčasnosť a spoluautorom knihy Kanonické vizitácie Cirkvi vo Veľkých Bieliciach z rokov 1776, 1798, 1812 a 1828. Mgr. MURTIN (Hložany, Srbsko) - Volám sa Ján Dobrocký, mám 64 rokov a som dôchodca, bol som poľnohospodár. Žijem v Hložanoch (Vojvodina-Srbija) a mám svoju rodinu. (2007-04-09)
